Chapter 2: Page 048

Sorry the new stuff took so long to get up, guys. Between preparations for San Diego Comic-Con, my honeymoon, and my most recent animated thingy, it became borderline impossible to finish everything and keep updating the comic. That's the necessary little evil with meeting deadlines, I gotta put certain things on backburner mode. But I can promise you guys this, in these rare times when I have to put BH on hold, it'll never be for too much more than a month.
Good news is, Battle Holiday updates are back to 1 or 2 updates a week.
So, speaking of the hiatus, here's the thing that kept me away for so long. It's my entry into Rob Schrab's "Scud Fan Film Contest". Schrab's work was one of my biggest influences from childhood. Now, I draw inspiration from his directorial work as well as the comics of old, so I thought I'd marry the two. Robot Bastard is Schrab's first film, and I love it as well, so I decided Scud and Robot Bastard should hang out and shoot things... here's how that turned out.
By the way, for the really bad-ass Scud fans, this little short takes place between Scud #24 and 25 in the Horse saga.
Anyway, already working on the next page.

Enter Gwar. I've been drawing Gwar since I was little. He's had different incarnations over the years, but the thing that stays the same is he's always a little green man, and he's always kinda nuts. This is the one time where he plays on the side of good. (Not that I think you guys need this history of my nerdy little kid doodles, but I'd like to think that the fact that these characters are all things I used to draw when I was a kid is kinda interesting.)

Chapter 2: Page 038

Battle Holiday is going to be temporarily limited to only one or two updates a week while I try to finish some other, more pressing projects.
The bad news is that you'll be getting less of the sex, violence, religious intrigue and spastic cuteness that you love. The good news is that it means big things are coming. I'd rather not give anything away, but I'll tell ya, it's two different projects, and they're both gonna be bad ass.
Sorry again guys, and you can expect three updates a week to resume as normal after San Diego Comic-Con.
If you guys have any questions, about the book or whatever, please ask away. I won't be updating as much, but I'll be checking up on here quite often as usual.

Chapter 2: Page 036

The lizard gods were the first characters I ever animated. The image of this tree and the two creatures sitting under it just jumped into my head during a class, and it was just such a cute/melancholic/mysterious image, I had to act on it. I decided to expand their mythology, and included them in Battle Holiday...
Their video is here.
The opening is a little hard to see, but get at least half way through, and you'll see everything clears up.

Chapter 1: Page 023

These pages along with the very first bar scene were finished up for last year's San Diego Comic Con. They are placed in that like they happen one after the other in the book, but in reality those scenes were always far apart. I did add some stuff between them when I went back in (bare in mind that the pencils for the first bit of the book were done my senior year in high school, 5 years ago) but the things I added were only to improve the narrative, or at least make it more boring. (jk)
This is where the book really becomes what it's meant to be.

Shit just got real.
Plush is a character I came up with around the 8th grade. He was originally a stuffed rabbit in an otherwise human world, but I grew so much as an artist in the three years after that, I had to start something new, and Plush was too good a character to leave behind. He's definitely my favorite, and sort of shares the spotlight for central character with Chi-Bunny. I'd like to some day make something where he's the primary hero, but for now, his rivalry with Chi-Bunny is definitely more than enough.
Sad to see Blood-Tor go so soon? Don't worry, there are plenty of death-hungry little critters to go around.

Chapter 1: Page 019

Introducing Igachi, Sluggy and Billy. Fun fact, Billy is the first character I ever came up with. I was very little, we're talking 3 or 4 here. He's based on a stuffed platypus I had as a kid. You can tell he grew up with me by his potty mouth. Sluggy was actually created by myself and my buddy Steve when we were eight or nine and he started goofing around in a big sleeping bag. Fun times.
I'd say half (maybe) of the Battle Holiday characters are things I've been drawing since I was little. This book is sorta my way of putting some of these really old ideas to bed. No history behind Igachi really. Except that he's an awesome samurai iguana.
